Its true renaissance began in 2017 when whisky legend Billy Walker (formerly of BenRiach/ GlenDronach), together with Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson , acquired the distillery from Chivas Brothers and transformed it into one of the few remaining independent Scottish distilleries . As early as 2018 , the first single malt core range appeared after decades of dormancy. The portfolio includes the 10 Years Cask Strength (awarded as "World's Best Single Malt 2021" ), as well as 12, 15, 18, 21 and 30 years Old . With over 50,000 casks in 16 warehouses ( some dating back to the 1970s ), Walker works with a £2 million annual timber budget on complex cask finishes. The four pot Stills with gravity-fed design and extended 160-hour fermentation produce a characteristic A fruity, full-bodied style. The 2024 rebranding introduced the Wood Collection . Each bottling bears Walker's signature – hand-selected, complex, and award-winning. A modern fairytale of Scottish independence.
