The Suntory Collection has embodied since 1899 marks the birth of Japanese whisky, founded by Shinjiro Torii as "Kotobukiya" in Osaka. After successful wine production (Akadama Port ), Torii established Japan's first whisky distillery, Yamazaki, in 1923 between Kyoto and Osaka on Mount Tenno , using the purest mountain spring water – under the direction of the Scottish-trained Masataka Taketsuru (later the founder of Nikka). The first Suntory Shirofuda in 1929 was too strong for Japanese palates, but the Kakubin The 1937 release ("square bottle") marked a breakthrough and remains Japan's best-selling whisky to this day. During WWII, Suntory supplied the military, and after 1945 , the US Army became a fan. The invention of Mizuwari (a water-whisky mix) in 1970 revolutionized drinking culture. The portfolio includes the legendary Yamazaki 12, 18, and 25 Year Olds , as well as Hakushu 12 and 18 Year Olds . Today, as Beam Suntory, it is the world's third-largest spirits producer with a dynasty of master blenders . Each bottling combines Wa ( harmony), handcrafted perfection, and Mizunara oak finishes – elegant, complex, and celebrated as a pioneer of international whisky awards .
